Installing and showing the GetRight Tools bar

Where do I get GetRight Tools? You can get GetRight Tools for free at greeneclipsesoftware.com.

What do I need to use it? You need a computer running either Windows 95/NT with Internet Explorer 5 or later, or Windows 98/2000. (Internet Explorer 5 is highly recommended. You may run into difficulties using the explorer bar with Internet Explorer 4, and the button to show the bar will not appear. See the instructions below for an alternate way to show the bar.) Of course, you also need GetRight. At this time, MyGetRight will not work with the explorer bar.

How do I show the download status window? You can either click the Downloads button on the Internet Explorer toolbar, or choose “Download status” from the “Explorer Bar” submenu of the “View” menu. If you can’t see the button, you may have customized your toolbar. Right-click on it and choose Customize if you want to add the button to your toolbar.

When I try this, I just get an error message. What’s wrong? The installation of the GetRight download status bar was probably damaged. You should re-download the status bar program and try again. Alternately, you can use the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel — highlight GetRight Tools, click Change (or Remove if there is no Change button), and choose to Repair the product.

Why do my downloads never show up on the list? You may not be using GetRight to download your files. If you do not have “click monitoring” turned on in GetRight, files you download in Internet Explorer may not be downloaded with GetRight, and therefore will not show up on the list. Downloads will also not show up on the list if they have not yet started. Finally, the explorer bar is not compatible with MyGetRight. If you are using MyGetRight, the explorer bar will be useless.

How can I get it to work in Netscape? You can’t. You must use Internet Explorer 5 or later. If you are not using Internet Explorer, you can use the floating toolbar by using the icon added to your Start menu.

How can I get it to work in NetCaptor? Click here for a tutorial on how GetRight Tools can be used in NetCaptor. It’s klunky, but it works.

Using GetRight Tools more effectively

Drag-and-drop files to download them. If you are not using GetRight browser click monitoring, or encounter a file that GetRight won’t catch, you can still send it to GetRight by dragging-and-dropping its link onto the GetRight Tools bar. Or, you can click on Download at the bottom of the bar and enter the URL yourself.

Use mass-downloading. If you need to download a page full of files with similar names, such as file0001.zip, file0002.zip, and so forth, drag-and-drop the last file in the series to Mass Download at the bottom of the GetRight Tools bar. A window will appear that will allow you to fine-tune the format of the URL, though GetRight Tools can usually automatically determine this. Just click the Mass Download button to begin the download, or click Save File List to save a list of files for GetRight to download later.
